Eden Farm Collaboration with Magalarva

Based on data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the composition of Indonesia's waste is dominated by organic waste, which reaches 60% of the total waste. The role of the Agritech industry in Indonesia as a contributor to organic waste in carrying out good waste management is urgently needed.

Since 16 February 2021, the agri-food tech company, Eden Farm, has implemented the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) waste management principle. One of them is by collaborating with Magalarva as a real action in maintaining food security while preserving the environment.

Magalarva is an environmentally friendly organic waste processing company that converts organic waste into alternative animal feed raw materials and organic fertilizers. In its efforts, Magalarva utilizes the bioconversion technology of the Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens.) larvae, also known as the BSF magot.

The collaboration that has been established with Eden Farm as a producer and supplier company for the needs of culinary entrepreneurs is for the Jabodetabek area. Foodstuffs must go through a sorting and packing process in the warehouse before being distributed to consumers.

The sorting process can produce 350 kilograms (kg) of organic waste which is then transported to the Magalarva organic waste processing facility in the Mount Sindur area and processed into a number of organic fertilizers through the bioconversion process.

Based on data for March 2021, 8.6 tons of organic waste were successfully recycled into fertilizer. The fertilizer produced will then be supplied back to Eden Farm and used by Eden Farm's farmer partners in the West Java region.

Magalarva ensures that Eden Farm's organic waste will not end up in the Final Disposal Site (TPA) and guarantees that organic waste is also processed in an environmentally friendly manner by providing monthly processing reports.

Rendria Labde, Founder & CEO of Magalarva said, Magalarva warmly welcomes the collaboration with Eden Farm, because this is a good start for changing the agricultural supply-chain system towards a circular and more environmentally friendly. "In addition, we can introduce BSF products and all their advantages to farmers," he said in a press release received by Kontan.co.id, Sunday (9/5).

Arunee Sarasetsiri, Founder & Development Director of Magalarva also stated that his party is very happy because it can reduce more and more organic waste that ends up in landfills. The benefits of BSF magot bioconversion can also be felt directly by farmers again in the form of organic fertilizer supplies.

Eden Farm and Magalarva also invite all businesses, especially agritech, to take part in the environmental preservation movement by tackling the problem of organic waste in an environmentally friendly manner. It is believed that the cooperation between Eden Farm and Magalarva will create the first zero-waste supply chain in Indonesia.

"We would like to invite all partners working in the agribusiness world to participate in building a close-loop ecosystem without similar waste so that the environment will be sustainable and the food supply chain will be more efficient. We all know that when the food supply chain becomes more efficient, food prices will also be more stable," said David Setyadi Gunawan, Founder & CEO of Eden Farm.

For the record, Eden Farm is currently serving the cities and regencies of Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, South Tangerang, Bekasi, Cikarang, Karawang, Cikampek, Purwakarta, Bandung, West Bandung, Cimahi, Semarang and Surabaya through its application, which can be downloaded. on Google Play (Android) or App Store (IOS).
