BSFL as a Solution to the Organic Waste Problem

The journey of Magalarva began when its founders visited the Bantar Gebang landfill and witnessed the sheer magnitude of the waste problem in Indonesia. What they discovered was staggering: 60-70% of the waste in the country was organic in nature. Surprisingly, most of the waste management efforts were primarily focused on non-organic waste.

This revelation prompted the team at Magalarva to brainstorm solutions for the overwhelming problem of organic waste. Their research led them to an intriguing discovery - the black soldier fly larvae, a remarkable creature capable of processing various types of organic waste and serving as a high-protein source for livestock.

Originating from the Americas, the black soldier fly can also be found in Indonesia, often cohabitating with chickens. The tropical climate in Indonesia provides the ideal conditions for the thriving life of these remarkable insects.

The potential of black soldier fly larvae in waste management and sustainable agriculture is significant. They can be used as a supplementary feed for various livestock, including ornamental fish. For instance, they have been proven to enhance the growth and physical condition of ornamental fish, making them more attractive and healthy.
